Kisan Diwas is being celebrated today amidst the protests on the new Farms Law. On 23 December, the 5th Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh Birth Anniversary was born. Chaudhary Charan Singh had initiated several policies to improve the lives and conditions of farmers. For this reason, the Government of India had decided to celebrate Farmers Day on 23 December every year in honor of Chaudhary Charan Singh in the year 2001.
Born on 23 December 1902 in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh, Chaudhary Charan Singh's tenure as Prime Minister was not long. He was Prime Minister from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980. Chaudhary Charan Singh made several policies during his tenure to improve the condition of farmers.
His love for farmers was also because Chaudhary Charan Singh himself was from a peasant family. Chaudhary Charan Singh understood the problems of farmers well. Chaudhary Charan Singh is also known as the messiah of farmers.
He also played a leading role in the agricultural sector of the country by presenting bills for reforms of farmers. Farmers are considered to be the backbone of India's economic development and Farmers Day is being celebrated every year to promote public awareness about the importance of farmers in the country and the overall economic and social development of the country.
On the other hand, the farmers, who have been agitating for 27 days, have decided not to celebrate Kisan Diwas 2020 this year. Farmers have appealed to the countrymen to give up one meal each day on Farmers Day and support the movement.
