'Mahasaya' Dharampal Gulati, owner of spice brand MDH, was given Padma Bhushan last year
The owner of spice brand MDH, 'Mahasya' Dharampal Gulati, has passed away on Thursday morning. He was 98 years old. According to reports, Gulati was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi for the last three weeks. He had a heart attack on Thursday morning. He breathed his last at 5:38 am. They had previously been infected with Corona. However, they were cured later. Last year, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan.
Came to India in 1947, stayed in the refugee camp
Popularly known as 'Dada Ji', 'Masala King', 'King of Spices' and 'Mahashaji', Dharampal Gulati was born in 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. Dharmapala Gulati, who left school midway, got involved in his father's spice business in the early days. After partition in 1947, Dharampal Gulati immigrated to India and stayed in a refugee camp in Amritsar. The first store opened in Karol Bagh, Delhi
He then moved to Delhi and opened a store in Karol Bagh, Delhi. Gulati officially established the company in 1959. This business spread not only in India but also in the world. This made Gulati a distributor and exporter of Indian spices.
Donated 90% of salary
Gulati's company exports Indian spices to various parts of the world including Britain, Europe, UAE, Canada, etc. In 2019, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, the country's third-highest civilian honor. According to MDH Masala, Dharampal Gulati used to donate about 90 percent of his salary.
