HIV-infected people will now get treatment in Rishikesh AIIMS. Patients will be treated with antiretroviral therapy. The National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) has already allowed AIIMS to open an ART center. Till now this facility is available only in Haldwani and Dehradun. The Center will be inaugurated on Tuesday at AIIMS. AIIMS Director Professor Ravikant pointed out that HIV-infected people are treated with antiretroviral therapy (ART). So far only Doon Medical College Dehradun and Sushila Tiwari State Hospital Haldwani were recognized as ART centers in Uttarakhand. But this month, for the convenience of HIV-infected people, National AIDS Control Organization NACO has also given permission to Center for AIIMS Rishikesh. Told that HIV infection spreads from person to person due to unsafe physical relationship, mother to child transmission, etc. This infection is also fatal for a person.
According to experts, mouth ulcers, sudden weight loss, fever, and prolonged diarrhea are the main symptoms of HIV infection. The director said that HIV infection does not mean the end of life. With proper medical care, an HIV-infected person can also lead a long healthy life. Anti-retroviral therapy (ART), if taken at the right time, helps prevent HIV infection. This therapy increases both qualities of life and longevity.
With the introduction of the facility, the HIV-infected people living in Rishikesh and adjoining areas besides Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Pauri districts will get a special benefit. For its operation, the counselor, the data entry operator, and other employees have been trained at Doon Medical College. HIV infection will be screened and treated in one place. AIIMS has also started treating such patients. It will be formally inaugurated on Tuesday.
